Our turning expert, Chip Siskey, will focus on proper cutting tool presentation to help you develop your spindle turning abilities, as well as, the chuck mounting techniques necessary when challenged with working on a piece that protrudes a few inches from the chuck. The resulting decorative thin stemmed goblet can be displayed or makes traditional wedding gift when embellished with captive rings.

NEW CLASS - In this class, resident expert, Bob Settich will teach you the time-honored mortise and tenon joint. This strongest of all joints will enable you to make tables and other furniture of almost any style. With a hand held router and a jig that you'll make with scrap plywood, you'll cut mortises with amazing precision. Additionally, the jig also places the mirror-image mortise in the legs at the opposite end of each table or chair rail. You'll also practice several different ways of producing tenons that fit perfectly. In this class, we will focus on safe lathe operation with discussion of lathes, drive centers, chucks, and other available accessories. We will discuss woodturning tools you may already have or have run across, and those available comparing the usefulness and quality of the metals. Our focus will turn to the seven basic tool where we will discuss when and how to use each one. We will finish with some hands on experience to ensure you grasp the proper tool presentation and use for each of these tools. There are so many tools available, the class will help you to select the correct tools for the projects you wish to complete. If you have tools, bring them but they are not necessary.
