Coffee Table with Turned Legs

Part 1: Saturday, May 3, 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Part 2: Sunday, May 4, 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM

In this 2 day class you will be making a 2 tone coffee table with turned legs. The first day of the class will focus on duplication in spindle turning. We will be using rulers, calipers, dividers, etc. to create 4 identical, or at least close enough to fool the eye, legs. We will also discuss some of the other options for duplication and when you may want to use them. On the second day, we will focus on creating the top and apron for the table as well as the final assembly. You will use the Festool Domino to help glue up the top and attach the legs to the apron. There will be a lot more attention on how to create the attachments needed to create a table. At the end of the class you will have a beautiful table that just need a coat of finish to be ready to use.

Hand Plane Basics

Why are hand planes so expensive? Why can’t I get thin curling shavings like the YouTubers I watch? What do I do with this old plane my grandfather left me? Do I need a hand plane in this tech friendly new world? In this class you will learn the answers to these questions and more, including plane setup, tuning, maintenance, sharpening, selection, and use. This beginner friendly class will take you through the different kinds of hand planes and allow you to get some hands on experience. Students are encouraged to bring their own planes to setup and tune, but planes will be provided for those still deciding to buy. Tuition includes the book "Getting Started with Hand Planes" by Scott Wynn for you to keep and continue your education.

Turning a River-Epoxy/Wood Bowl/Platter

Part 1: Friday, May 9, 9 AM - 11:45 AM

Part 2: Friday, May 16, 9 AM - 3 PM

This two-day class will introduce you to the tools, tips and techniques used to create and turn a project that combines colorful resins with natural wood and yields an unusual and beautiful bowl. Day one we will prepare the blank, attach an appropriate mounting system and introduce the resins. Day 2 – Resin doesn’t dry and cure quickly - so we will turn & finish the project after the epoxy has cured - Dave will introduce you to the special tools and techniques used to successfully turn and finish the project
