Details
Shapton® Glass Stones are harder, faster cutting, and denser than any other ceramic waterstone on the market. The density and high degree of uniformity in the distribution of the ceramic particles results in fast honing at every grit level. Because they remove material quickly, the time required to hold a tool angle on the stone is reduced, making freehand sharpening easier.
Each stone is comprised of a 5mm-thick glass backing plate fused to a 5mm-thick stone. This innovative design uses tempered float glass as a foundation for each stone, giving it a degree of dimensional stability and strength while ensuring that all the abrasive is usable. 4,000-grit High-Carbon Stones are engineered for very fine grained high-carbon steels such as those found in fine quality Japanese white and blue steel chisels and chief’s knives.
We recommend purchasing and using the Shapton Stone Holder (sold separately) because it provides a secure platform that protects the stone while maintaining a good working height throughout the sharpening process.
