Building a Full-Sized Shoji Panel

You’ve probably seen shoji panels – they’re the sliding screens often used in Japanese homes. In this class you’ll build 24"x60" shoji panel (or a different size to fit your space). You'll build the wood frame, mount the panel infill (handmade mulberry paper) on an acrylic backing and assemble the elements. At the end of the class you’ll have an attractive, free-standing accent piece to use as a free-standing room divider, a closet door, a window insert or something else. Best of all, you'll have the know-how to create more ambitious shoji projects.

Are you new to woodworking? Want to brush up on basic skills? The Instructor will teach how to safely use the essential power tools in any woodshop. Students will learn how to set up cuts and operate a table saw, planer, jointer, band saw, miter saw, and drill press. These skills will be put into practice to create a charcuterie board which can proudly be shown off to family and friends. On day two go beyond the basics and create a beautiful slide top keepsake box! You will practice skills learned in order to gain confidence using essential power tools. Use this foundation to accomplish your woodworking project goals.
