HANDS-ON. Paul DeMars will teach this dynamic and fundamental, "3-session", class for all beginning turners. Session #1: Spindle Turning. This class is geared to help you get started on the lathe. Tool selection, handling, safety and machine basics will be covered. You will learn how to make cuts to produce beads, coves and other basic spindle shapes. Session #2: Bowl Turning/Face Grain. Perfect your basic skills by learning to turn a wooden bowl. Face plate turning, tool selection, techniques, sanding and finishing will be covered. Session #3: Bowl Turning/End- Grain. Learn to turn another style of bowl by it's end-grain. End-grain bowls are very different than face-grain bowls and will allow you to expand your turning skills. Hand Tool Basics & Sharpening

HANDS-ON. Chisels, scrapers, planes and saws are the most fundamental woodworking tools in the shop. Howard will provide hands-on instruction on how to sharpen, adjust and use each of these great tools. Students will practice "old world" basic exercises with each tool. Tool #1: Learn basic chisel techniques and how to cut a mortise for a hinge faster than any machine takes to set up. Tool #2: Learn how to use a cabinet scraper as a step toward applying a fine finish. Tool #3: Learn how great using a hand plane can be. Plane an edge straight, flatten a board and cut chamfers with ease. Tool #4: Sharpen and reset your dovetail saw so it cuts perfectly. Learn simple exercises that will give you great confidence with your saw. This is a wonderful hands-on class that anyone interested in hand tools will enjoy. Finishing For The Home Shop

Learn simple "old world" finishing from a student of Fine Woodworking's contributing editor and woodworking master, Tage Frid. This class will teach the four finishes that will easily work for the home shop. Demos will show how to prepare the wood for finishing, using everything from the thickness planer, to cabinet scraper, to the proper way to use sandpaper. Build A Spline Corner Keepsake Box

HANDS-ON. Mark Seay has come up with a great Table Saw Box Class. Mark is a wonderful teacher and his hands-on style of teaching really helps everyone learn about "how" to do woodworking! Students will make a small Keepsake Box from two contrasting woods on the table saw. The little box will have spline cut corners with contrasting wood splines to give it strength. The contrasting splines will give the box an extra sharp look. This is a really great looking little box and would make a wonderful gift for that someone special. HANDS-ON. We have a GREAT KITCHEN CLASS from Doug Jones. Students will build, over the three nights, an End-Grain style Cutting Board from two contrasting types of wood. This 12" X 18" Cutting Board will be constructed from "End-Grain", not the Long-Grain of the boards. This traditional method of building a Cutting Board makes it VERY DURABLE. It will takes cuts from a knife and not show any damage for many years to come.
