Casting Handle Blanks and Turning Epoxy Two Day Class

with Keith VanCamp

Part 1: Saturday, September 28, 3 PM - 6 PM

Part 2: Sunday, September 29, 1:30 PM - 4 PM

Join us for this two-part, two-day class where we’ll be discussing using casting resin and burls to make one of a kind handle blanks for your turning projects. Each student will use a 4” x 6” x 2” HDPE mold to make two turning blanks the perfect size for handles of bottle openers, ice cream scoops, etc. You’ll pick your colors with a wide variety of dyes and powders and Woodcraft Regional Rep Keith VanCamp will show you how to mix them and use a pressure pot to make sure your blanks are bubble-free. Then, they’ll stay under pressure overnight and we will get together the following day to turn one of your blanks into one of the kits that Woodcraft sells (bottle opener, ice cream scoop, pizza cutter, pie server, cheese plane, etc.). Keith will explain the use of negative rake cutters on your turning tools to help with that extra-hard material. Then, we’ll turn it to your desired shape (add some accents if you’d like) and we’ll go over the best way to apply a finish for a truly one of a kind piece. Then, since you’ve made two blanks you’ll still have the other to take home and turn into whatever you please! Don’t miss this great class; you’ll leave with one finished project, a second blank of your own, and all the knowledge you need to create your next masterpiece. Class is $100 with an extra $25 to cover the materials for a total of $125.
