Join Jess Crow, one of the nation's leading epoxy artistic woodworking innovators, for this brand new class where you will learn how to create a river style round. This round can be used as a clock, serving tray, Lazy Susan or more. Once you have the concept down you will be able to take this technique and turn it into a table of any size or shape. Jess will guide students through the river style process, including how you prepare a live edge slab*, how to save not only wood, but epoxy, creating a River Style project using Jess's "more is less" method, adding custom colors and designs, selecting and pouring the proper resin, and more! Students will have the option to select either handles or feet to their boards when they come back to pick up their projects. Wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable work clothing with no excessive fabric or loose jewelry. Students who are sensitive to smells should also bring a mask or respirator. During this class, you'll start with a practice board to get a feel for creating cells within epoxy then you'll advance into making your own charcuterie board. Techniques covered include mixing colors and also how not to mix colors. Students will be making two items in this class. One will be a (minimum) 10in x 10in board and the other will be a Charcuterie board. Each student will have the option of doing the signature wave or taking it free form and creating any style epoxy pour they’d like on their larger Charcuterie board. Students who register for this 2-day class will receive 8+ hours of in depth instruction from Jess Crow, one of the nation's leading epoxy artistic woodworking innovators. Topics covered include using molds, making molds, mixing colorants and resin, conducting deep pours, de-molding projects, sanding, and applying a final epoxy finish. In addition to the extra time spent with Jess in a smaller class setting, all students will receive one of Jess' signature reusable resin molds to take home and use for future projects ($259.99 value)! Students will be working on two projects throughout this class. One will be a multi-layered pour that’s worked on over the two days. The second project, creating a live edge tray, will be done the first day of class and demolded the second day (weather and temperature permitting.) Cabinetry 1: Building A Carcass & Face Frame

The first step in building cabinets is constructing the "box" or carcass. In this, hands-on, class you will learn the proper techniques to create a strong and durable cabinet carcass. Joinery and assembly techniques for most cabinet applications will be discussed. The Kreg Jig will be demonstrated and used for the face frame assembly. Each student is responsible for supplying their own tape measure, steel rule, adjustable square, pencils or other marking device, notebook, safety glasses and hearing protection.

If you have ever wanted to learn more about CNC machines then this is the class for you. This lecture class utilizes the Shark CNC Machine and VCarve Software. The instructor will start with the basics; how to set up a Shark CNC machine, what the display commands mean, and VCarve software setup. You will learn how to use the VCarve software including setting the work piece size and understanding the basic Icons. You will learn about designing objects, creating toolpaths, and saving your work. Each student is responsible for supplying their own personal laptop loaded with VCarve Pro Trial. In this fun class, you will also learn the basics of woodturning, turning a square block into a round spindle, while adding creative coves and beads. In this hands-on class, you will learn both of the main skills in woodturning; face plate turning and how to create all of the basic spindle shapes and cuts. CNC III - Importing Pictures

This is the third class offered in our CNC curriculum. In this class you will learn how to import a picture into the VCarve software. This lecture class utilizes a Next Wave CNC machine and VCarve software. The instructor will go over different project layers, how to import pictures, and how to manipulate the workplace and pictures once they are imported. Power Carving: An Introduction

There is more to power carving than most people think. In this demonstration class, the instructor will cover Foredom and Dremel use, along with power carving techniques using angle grinders, reciprocating carvers, die grinders, bandsaws and even stationary belt sanders! They will also cover safety, wood selection and design considerations. From wooden spoons to large sculpture, power carving can do it all! Each student is responsible for supplying their own safety glasses, hearing protection, note pad and pencil.

Bandsaw Boxes

The bandsaw can be one of the most useful tools in your workshop. In one day, the instructor will guide you through the construction of your very own bandsaw box. He will also show you other bandsaw box tricks and techniques as well as cover basic bandsaw set up and how to keep your saw running its best. These boxes make great gifts and after this fun and informative class, you'll be able to make as many as you want! Each student is responsible for supplying their own dust mask, safety glasses or face shield, hearing protection, pencil and notebook. All other class materials will be provided by the instructor.

Relief Carving - Advanced

Relief carving has been a part of woodworking for centuries and all woodworkers can improve their carving skills in this advanced class. The instructor will focus on classic relief patterns like shells, acanthus leafage, and scrolls. Students will work on several different patterns that each require different techniques and tricks to complete. The instructor will also cover tool care and sharpening. Each student is responsible for supplying their own carving mallet and safety glasses. The instructor will try to provide the necessary tools but if you own a set of carving tools, please bring them.

Woodturning: A Live Edge Bowl

Saturday, June 7, 10:30 AM - 4:30 PM

This is one of our more advanced bowl turning classes. We will discuss, in detail, how to harvest your own wood along with best practices in logging, storing and understanding where the bowl and platter blanks are in the log. You will learn advanced tool techniques, how to keep the bark on the blank using CA adhesives, elements of design, form and function and different bowl mounting techniques. You will also learn how to keeping the wings of the bowl the same thickness and how to keep the wings aligned with each other. Each student is responsible for supplying their own eye protection, dust mask, face shield, notebook, 1/2in and 3/8in bowl gouge, round scraper, parting tool. Hand Cut Dovetails - Course 1

The topic of this hands-on class is the most fundamental of all woodworking joints: The "Through Dovetail". Students will learn the basics of dovetail layout as well as basic saw and chisel control as we practice cutting many dovetails. Safety and tool selection will be discussed. A handout is provided detailing all of the steps covered in the class as well as some suggested practical exercises to complete as "next steps" to guide your practice. Each student is responsible for supplying their own dovetail saw (western or Japanese), sharp 1/2in and 1/4in chisels, mallet, marking knife, dovetail marker, pencil, marking gauge, fret saw or coping saw, eye protection, pocket knife and a pair of dividers.

Cabinetry 2: Building Stile & Rail Doors

In this class, you'll learn to make stile and rail cabinet doors. Students will take home their completed doors. As in most cabinet making, the table saw and router table are the main tools used for door construction. Furniture Building 101 - 3-Legged Sitting Stool

Build your very own 3-legged sitting stool in this furniture building class. You will learn the basic techniques needed for building more complex furniture, including tables and chairs. You will be introduced to "rake & splay", sight lines, tapered through tenons, blind tenons, and wedged joints. Each student is responsible for supplying their own bench planes (#3 or #4 & a #5), mallet, 4” bevel gauge, sanding block, 8” compass, cross cut saw, safety glasses and hearing protection. Photo memories are a great way to share special family events. Why not showcase them around your home in a picture frame you made? Join us for a day in the workshop and learn how to safely and creatively, design and build an 8in x 11in picture frame. An American Classic: The Adirondack Chair

In this hands on class, students of any skill level will learn the ins and outs of knife making! With a set of wooden knife scales and knife kit of your choosing, each student will create their own custom knife to take home. The instructor will cover how to attach the scales to your knife blank, shaping, sanding and the final finishing. Each student is responsible for supplying their own knife kit, knife scales, hearing protection and safety glasses.

Woodworking: Make A Laminated Cutting Board

In this hands-on class you will be introduced to tools like the table saw, jointer, planer, band saw, drum sander and router. Students will construct a multi-colored cutting board using hardwoods like Maple, Beech, Cherry, Alder, Oak and Walnut. General and machine safety, wood choice and adhesive selection will be covered. AND, you will take home a cutting board fit for the finest gourmet kitchen! Each student is responsible for supplying their own safety glasses, hearing protection, note pad and pencil.

From Logs To Lumber: How To Harvest Your Own Wood!

Wood is all around us in the form of trees that are often cut down for various reasons. In this lecture/demonstration class, the instructor will teach students to process salvaged wood into lumber. They will discuss and demonstrate techniques like proper processing of raw or "green" wood, storing and drying, use of chainsaws and home shop equipment for lumber making and other topics so you can cut your own lumber! Each student is responsible for supplying their own notebook and pencil.

Power Carving: Carve A Rainbow Trout

Saturday, August 30, 9:30 AM - 4 PM

The instructor will show you how to carve a realistic rainbow trout in this hands-on class. They will cover stock removal techniques, choosing the right burrs for the job, the double-cut technique on the bandsaw for quick stock removal and more. Each student is responsible for supplying their own power carver, dust mask, and face shield or safety glasses.
