Advanced Pen Turning

Pen making as a hobby has been around for over 20 years, but it's only lately that this pastime has really taken off. This class is a two day class. The students will learn the basic styles of pens and pen kit plating differences on the hardware. Students will choose one of the pen styles and turn either a wood or acrylic pen. Students will learn about the differences in molds that can be used, mixing resin, coloring resin, and how to use a pressure pot. On day one students will make an acrylic pen blank and on day two students will select a a pen blank, learn various drilling techniques, inserting the pen tube, mounting the pen blank for turning, bushings, and applying a finish best suited for your pen. You will learn all you need to know to make these beautiful pens. Each participant will complete one pen during the class session.

Whittling developed when sharpened metal knives were used to carve a hand held piece of wood making whittling one of the earliest forms of carving. In this class, you will learn to carve your own wooden chain from a single piece of wood. The techniques learned can be used to make a chain of any size or length. (The Guinness World record is 487.5 feet long from a single piece of wood!)

If this synopsis connects with you, then Woodcraft's new Cabinet Making Series may fill the bill for you. The Cabinet Making Series is designed to maintain continuity by combining all the components of basic cabinetry in 17 hours (three sessions) of classroom and ptractical hands on instruction. Students will learn bisc fundamentals in how to choose and prepare stock to construct Base Units, Upper Wall Units, Drawers and Raised Panel Doors. Stock preparation will be accomplished utilizing the jointer, planer, electric miter saw, tablesaw and router table. Cabinet carcasses will be assembled using standard techniques and face frames will be assembled and attached using the Kreg Pocket Hole System. So, come on out, learn the techniques for making your own cabinets from the planning stage to ta finished product complete with drawers and doors.
