Learn cabinet building skills while making a small wall hanging cabinet. Creating butt joints, effective use of screws for he assembly. Use of a free floating back. How to build square and use of a shelf pin jig. There will be a break for lunch and many restaurants are near by.
Learn terminology of the lathe and lathe chisels. Understand the three basic cuts in woodturning that will be the foundation of all your woodturning. Practice turning skills, body positions and movements for the development of good and safe turning practices. Apply what you learn and making a small project such as a honey dipper, weed pot, tool handle, Christmas ornament if time permits. There will be a break for lunch and many restaurants are near by.
Students will learn how to select a wood pen blank and prepare it for turning the desired pen kit. You will learn the difference between High Speed Steel and Carbide as well as the pros and cons of each. Turning to the desired shape you choose. Sanding to be free of grain defects, remove tool marks, dents and other defects. Apply finish and avoid streaking. Assembly of the finished product to show off to friends and relatives.
