Sharp tool equals good finished products. This Demo will teach the basic skills needed to keep your chisels in good cutting condition. You will learn to sharpen the roughing gouge, bowl gouge, spindle gouge, parting tool, and a skew chisel. Grinding is done on a slow speed grinder with an aluminum oxide wheel and a CBN wheel. Bring any one of the five basic tools you would like sharpened.
Learn terminology of the lathe and lathe chisels. Understand the three basic cuts in woodturning that will be the foundation of all your woodturning. Practice turning skills, body positions and movements for the development of good and safe turning practices. Apply what you learn and making a small project such as a honey dipper, weed pot, tool handle, Christmas ornament if time permits.
Students will learn how to select a wood pen blank and prepare it for the desired pen kit. Then you will learn to turn it to the desired shape and sand it to be free of tool marks, grain and other defects. The final steps will be applying a finish and assembling the pen.
